September FFN update: Canteen & Six Inches of Soil

With just one month now till opening date, Canteen – the project we’re pitching to Frome as ‘a pop-up pay-what-you-can community restaurant’ – is nearing its final planning stages.

Since last month’s update, a fair few things have happened, such as: Cherry Truluck designing Canteen’s visual identity (see, for example, logo above), Lyndsey Mayhew coming on board to plan and lead Canteen’s marketing efforts, and a meeting with Frome Medical Practice to explore how this project could feed into a collective vision of a happier, healthier town.

Last week, we put out first word to the public. And so far have had nothing but an encouraging response. Promotion will continue to flow, but if you feel compelled to spread the word among Frome friends and family at whatever you deem an appropriate opportunity yourself, please do!

The up-to-date details for Canteen’s first pop-ups are as follows:

Further Canteen planning

We had planned the next general meeting on Canteen for the 25th of September (tomorrow). That’s now changed to Wednesday, the 2nd of October. Exact time is TBC, but reply to hugh@fromefoodnetwork.co.uk if you’d like to come along to get up to speed with the project.

Six Inches of Soil: Frome screening

Six Inches of Soil is a new film about UK farmers practising alternatives to the industrial and commodified food system and, in doing so, healing the soil, improving our health, and providing food for their local communities.

Frome’s first screening of the film takes place in Frome Town Council’s chambers on 3rd October at 6:30pm. There’ll be a panel discussion including local farmers Jeremy Padfield and Ed Green, community composter Ben Still, and Frome Field2Fork co-founder Caroline Wajsblum to follow.
